Types of Metal and Thickness

We have worked with 925 sterling silver, 935 and 940 Argentium silver (see our Types of Silver blog), rolled gold and solid 375 9ct yellow and red (rose) gold. Happy to work with other metals on request but I will need to trial first, please get in touch. I have cut up to 1mm thick, may be able to cut thicker but again need to try first. I usually do engraving blanks 0.5mm thick Argentium 940.

Sheet Metal

We can supply solid silver Argentium 940 or rolled gold sheet, charged by weight of the finished pieces. See our Types of Silver blog for details on Argentium silver. You can also supply your own sterling silver 925 or gold sheet if preferred, perhaps sending it from a CooksonGold account, and we will return all the scrap to you. Solid gold will be sent unhallmarked as it will be supplied unfinished to trade clients only (not available retail).

Tesselation

I will try my best to keep shapes closest to each other as possible to reduce the amount of scrap. Happy to help you calculate the amount of space needed but if a piece is 12mm across and 12mm down and you want 20 pieces then I would recommend 65 x 52mm sheet of silver, rolled gold or gold (13mm squared, four by five grid).

Custom Cutting Service Finishing

Unfinished as standard, can be finished on request for extra charges. Jump rings do not come attached but can be added and soldered on request. To finish, we recommend you push out any negative spaces (to make holes) and sand with 1000, 2000 and 3000 grit ultra fine sanding pads then a magnetic tumble polisher or polishing machine. I do my best to avoid large scratches but some may appear due to metal working area.

Laser Engraved Text Options

Add your text, any amount of characters – upper and lower case, numbers and punctuation in your chosen font. You can choose Roman numerals, birth, marriage or death coordinates (we’re happy to help you work that out), or messages of love and hope, remembrance. We are even happy to include more “colourful” language. The more letters you choose, the smaller the writing will be.

Here are some special characters you can copy and paste, they will appear in black and may be a slightly different shape when engraved. We can do heart, sun, moon left or right, star, infinity symbol, musical notes (pair of quavers), droplet/teardrop, paw prints, footprints, horseshoe, butterfly. Please ask for more!

Engraving Fonts

Engraving on Engravable Heart Pendants is done in Arial font as standard but please let us know if you’d prefer another font such as Times New Roman, Vivaldi, Amazone BT, or Silver South Serif & Script. Click on each font to see it “in action” with your client’s chosen words. We can work with any font, please get in touch to discuss alternatives and you can always send us the .ttf file. Always let us know in the comments of the text engraving product before adding it to the basket if you don’t want arial. We recommend Arial, Times New Roman or Silver South Serif for long messages, and handwriting fonts like Vivaldi, Amazone BT or Silver South Script are great for short messages and on larger pieces.

We are happy to engrave “sweary” messages and we are usually able to do some special characters and accents but please double check with us by email or message before accepting the order and we may need to do it as an image instead or another font. The length of the text we can fit depends on the font style and the size of the piece so again please double check if you’re unsure.

We will proof the cutting so please keep an eye out for the WhatsApp messages. 10 working day lead time from receipt of all cutting  information, receipt of the metal and payment.
