Description
Eco friendly opalescent flakes for any resin jewellery, especially those made with breastmilk. Some people call them opal flakes but they’re not real opal – we sell lab produced synthetic opal here if that’s what you’re looking for!
Our opalescent flakes are plant based vegan glitter. They look white at first glance but contain subtle colour. Perfect for mixing with resin to give an opal effect. We do not use mica mined by children, it’s all ethically sourced. You can read about the use of child labour in the mica industry in Lush’s blog here and the importance of sourcing synthetic or ethically sourced mica.
The opalescent flakes are found in our exclusive breastmilk pearly colours and resin sparkle mixes, but we know clients like to use these by themselves or add a little extra to the sparkle mixes. The subtlety of some of these flakes makes them difficult to show in the light, but you can show them off in videos and colour swatches! For plain white with opalescent flakes choose the classic – other colours are bright or subtle.
Please read our full Terms and Conditions and FAQ page before ordering.
Using Opalescent Flakes
Opalescent Flakes work beautifully in epoxy and UV resin. The resulting colour and shade will depend on how much of them you use, how it’s placed and your other additions, inclusions and elements. You do not need very much at all; a little goes a very long way. Use a tiny measuring spoon to measure a little out, or an eyeshadow applicator.
These breastmilk resin sparkle mixes can be used with clear resin and will make it translucent or opaque depending on the quantity used. You can use it with cremation ashes, for example, vary in colour from white through to browns, greys and black, so adding this pigment will not change the natural colour of the ashes. The same applies for umbilical cord. You can combine these with our pigmented resin sparkle mixes here for a pastel shade.
Please make sure you tell your clients you cannot guarantee a shade but you can purchase stock images from us (coming soon!)
Simply premix with resin then pour this into your mould, or push it into a mould already filled with resin. You can also add your clients’ elements or inclusions like breastmilk, lock of hair, umbilical cord and placenta or cremation ashes. Then cure in the usual way. Or you can add your resin to the mould before adding the forget-me-not flowers
