Why Are My Keepsakes Not Selling?

Why Are My Keepsakes Not Selling? This is a question that I'm asked regularly by people starting out in the breastmilk and memorial jewellery industry, and sometimes even by those who've been selling for a while.Solid silver ashes heart dangle charm with peridot green sparkle mix and August birthstone colour. Why Are My Keepsakes Not Selling? This is a question that I’m asked regularly by people starting out in the breastmilk and memorial jewellery industry, and sometimes even by those who’ve been selling for a while. I must admit, it bothers me because I want everyone to be successful. I spoke to a friend a few weeks ago and she runs a supply company for keepsake jewellery artists too. She was as concerned as I was that people are leaving the industry because they don’t think they can get enough orders to sustain it. It’s taken till now, but I’d like to address that here.

After all, there’s enough work (more than enough) for all of us, so why are some businesses getting so much more work than others?

a million people pass every day and a million babies are born, not to mention pets. It’s not a lack of keepsake clients, it’s artists not being able to reach them. I need to write a blog on this!

First of all, let’s look at how sales are measured. You might want to look at the amount or orders you’re taking each month, or you might measure it by pieces sold (what if you add on the extra pieces you up-sell during the making process) and are you including accessories, such as ring holder necklaces? Are you looking at numbers on social media, for example how many people like your Facebook page, or your followers on Instagram? Or is it something you can’t really count, like how many of your clients refer you to their friends by word of mouth? However you are measuring success, it all boils down to how much profit you’re able to make and are you covering your overheads and able to pay yourself at least minimum wage?

Assuming that you’ve looked at your profit margins (if you’re not great with spreadsheets and can’t afford an accountant to go through this with you, just make sure that you’re charging about as much as I do on TreeofOpals.com and you will be fine) and it’s all ok, you might not be selling enough to make a living. The trick is volume. You need enough sales to make it all worth it, and if you’re not getting enough enquiries and clicks then you’re unlikely to make enough sales. Why Are My Keepsakes Not Selling even though I have worked really hard to make my pieces beautiful? It could be any of the following issues:

  1. SEO
  2. social media
  3. pricing
  4. product images

If you’d like any more information on these issues please leave me a comment below and I’ll answer in-depth.
