Introduction: Their Personal Tribute
Putting cremation ashes into a ring is a really special way to keep a loved one close. It was once believed that the fourth finger from the thumb is linked to the heart, the “vena amouris” and although we now know that all fingers have blood going to and from the heart, it’s still the traditional finger to wear a ring for a loved one on. Whichever finger you choose, we’re a size-inclusive jeweller*. With the right resin jewelry making settings, it is a simple coffee-table craft, no need for silversmithing experience.

Putting Ashes in a Ring: Filled vs. Cabochon Rings
-
Filled Rings (Direct Pour): You simply add the resin straight into the bezel cup or ring channel then sprinkle some ashes on top (and optional sparkles and colour). It’s beginner-friendly and requires minimal tools.
-
Cabochon Rings: Making a cabochon/stone with a mould which you can then set in the ring using the back of a teaspoon. The stone is protected by the metal walls. Perfect for a modern, subtle finish and you can make as many stones as you like till you get the perfect one. You can learn more about the pros and cons of direct pour v’s rubover settings here.
Adding Sparkle & Soul
Ashes can be any colour from white to black and everything in between, but the main colour is grey. Some clients love that look and you can keep the colour and keep pieces they size they are. Did you know, crematoriums grind our loved ones’ remains in a machine called a cremulator, older machines tend to have a coarser grind? So it’s quite normal to grind the ashes a little finer for cremains jewellery and most clients prefer the look.

Adding colour is easy. Our DIY kits come with a small sample of our sparkle mix for resin in a random colour but you can use any powder eyeshadow (mica), edible shimmer, acrylic paint (in VERY tiny amounts) and precious metal leaf. We sell crushed opal and you can even choose a specific colour theme that honours the departed, such as their birthstone or their sports team’s colour.

The Final Touch: Inexpensive Engraving
Our jewellery can be personalised with engraving. That can be text engraving, like “Miss you forever Mum xxx” with emojis like hearts and stars or their actual handwriting (e.g., from an old card), so makers don’t need expensive laser equipment.

Healing with an Ashes Ring
We also offer solid gold ring settings in 9ct, 14ct and 18ct yellow gold and red or rose gold.
