This blog isn’t for sympathy and the business is doing pretty well, I can pay my staff and my bills and my shop rent but there isn’t always enough to pay myself. As a single mum, I want to be able to provide for my babies and sometimes if I don’t get child support, I have to use food banks. I’ll go into a bit more detail below for anyone interested.

Last month on I did a blog called Why Are My Keepsakes Not Selling? and it was one of the most commented on posts I’ve ever made. Not only on the blog itself but across social media and in my private messages, in our Facebook group and even on my WhatsApp. I was humbled at the response and it made me feel less alone out here.
Clients are telling me that they’re struggling to get started and they need help, or their business is slowing down. With the costs of food and living constantly going up, clients aren’t ordering non-essentials like jewellery quite so often. With Tree of Opals, it’s doing much better than it has in the past couple of years because I’ve been focussing more on SEO (which I have some blogs on) and I’m always happy to share that with you all. Sale To Pay Myself
I’ve been a single parent since August 2022, so almost two years. I was a solo parent way longer than that, since I was pregnant with my first. Solo parenting with a partner is difficult, especially if it’s because that partner is abusive. For me, some things got much easier after my husband moved out but financially it’s been hard. I’m always so grateful for every single order here and on my flagship store, Tree of Opals, because it literally puts food on the table. I’m never sure if I’m going to get child support, my bills vary quite a lot and there’s always something unexpected like the vet or my car needing new tyres.
