Earring Post Soldering, please only book this service after consultation with Nikki for pricing and we have asked you to book. You may be sending your own sheet metal or purchasing ours. Includes pickling but not finishing, we may clean the finished earrings in the magnetic tumble polisher but please let us know if you don’t want this service included. This listing is only for the cost of the earring posts and the soldering service, does not include the bezel cup or blank, or any finishing service. We use solder paste. Gold items are sold unfinished as components and may need hallmarking if each one gram or over, please see your own country’s hallmarking rules.

Types of Metal and Thickness

We have worked with 925 sterling silver, 935 and 940 Argentium silver (see our Types of Silver blog), rolled gold and solid 375 9ct yellow and red (rose) gold. Happy to work with other metals on request but I will need to trial first, please get in touch. We do have a laser welder but are not practiced with platinum yet so are unable to take this on.

Sheet Metal

We can supply solid silver Argentium 940 or rolled gold sheet, charged by weight of the finished pieces. See our Types of Silver blog for details on Argentium silver. You can also supply your own sterling silver 925 or gold sheet if preferred, perhaps sending it from a CooksonGold account, and we will return all the scrap to you. Solid gold will be sent unhallmarked as it will be supplied unfinished to trade clients only (not available retail).

Placement

We will try our best to keep posts central by pre-marking with a Sharpie and creating a little burr, this also keeps the solder paste from flowing away resulting in a strong neat connection. Please mark the piece if you’d like non-standard placement or to show us where, otherwise posts will be placed at our discretion

Earring Post Soldering Service Finishing

Unfinished as standard, can be finished on request for extra charges. To finish, we recommend you push out any negative spaces (to make holes) and sand with 1000, 2000 and 3000 grit ultra fine sanding pads then a magnetic tumble polisher or polishing machine. This will give a beautiful and sustainable satin finish. I do my best to avoid large scratches but some may appear due to metal working area.
