Crafting Keepsake Rings: Learn to Make Resin Rings
Are you ready to create a beautiful, lasting piece of jewellery? Making resin rings is a great way to preserve precious keepsakes, memorials, or breastmilk inclusions for your customers. Whether you’re a complete beginner making a DIY or looking to perfect your keepsake technique technique, this quick guide will introduce you to the essentials you need to get started with Keepsaker Supplies! View our choice of rings here. If you’d like to send us your inclusions for a completed ring then visit my other website, Tree of Opals here.
The Two Main Ways to Make a Resin Ring
There are two main options to make a resin ring:
- Direct Pour / Filling Technique: This is often the simplest method. You directly fill the ring setting (which has a bezel cup or you tape the back) with resin and your inclusions. It’s quick and great for beginners.
- Cabochon Stone Method: To make resin rings with a stone is better if you’re worried about mistakes. It involves making a separate cabochon (a shaped resin ‘stone’) in a mould first. Once cured, the cabochon is removed and carefully set into a ring finding using a rubover technique rather than glue. This method offers a professional, finished look and you can choose the best of several stones.
Choosing Your Resin: UV vs. Epoxy
The type of resin you use will impact your process. While both epoxy resin and UV resin work, we highly recommend UV resin for ring making.
| Feature | UV Resin | Epoxy Resin |
| Curing Time | Seconds to minutes (under a UV lamp) | 12-72 hours |
| Ease of Use | Very easy; no mixing required | Requires precise measuring and mixing |
| Best For | Small, fast projects like rings | Large pieces or deeper pours |
