Individual snowflake ornament mould for Christmas and holidays. They are not cut and the finished piece is easily removed without force if it’s not overfilled. The snowflake is 114mm tall, 100mm wide and 10mm thick and is ideal for epoxy resin, concrete, papier mâché or food such as chocolate. Due to its large size we don’t recommend this mould for UV resin. Please read our full Terms and Conditions and FAQ page before ordering.
Using Silicone Moulds
Because they are made from water-clear silicone, our moulds (molds) they are ideal for many types of material including polyester and epoxy resin. No need for polishing or sanding. We use a strong but flexible high quality silicone and each mould is hand made and checked. An individual clear silicone snowflake ornament mould is similar to other moulds on the market but are sold as disposable. We find they last around 50 cures for epoxy resin. We recommend you use mould release to condition them, either a professional spray or an oil like coconut or linseed oil. This may extend their useful period but when the silicone starts to stick to your work it may be time to consider replacing them. We also own Tree of Opals where we use our own moulds every day so they are designed with resin in mind.
Simply mix your resin with colours, sparkles, flowers or your clients’ elements or inclusions like breastmilk, lock of hair, umbilical cord and placenta or cremation ashes. Then add to the mould and cure in the usual way. Or you can add your resin to the mould before adding elements.
If working with epoxy resin we recommend you work in layers to achieve beautiful depths of colour.
These moulds are suitable for use with resin (epoxy resin or polyester resin), concrete, polymer clay (air drying, heat curing such as Premo and Sculpey). We recommend removing the polymer clay from the mould before baking if not using air drying clay although they can be heated up to 130°C. To remove unset clay without warping it, we recommend cutting the mould vertically around halfway down. Although we use a food-safe silicone, we don’t recommend these moulds for use with food due to the manufacturing process.
Mould Life and Care
These moulds are sold for semi-permanent use and will degrade with use. This is normal and not classed as a fault. Please see our mould care information for more info. The life of your moulds will depend on the material used, the number of uses, how gentle you are using it, good storage, careful washing and environmental factors.
It is very important you do a test cast with each mould to check for imperfections, to remove any dust attained during transit and to make sure you are comfortable using the mould before making any jewellery. We advise you use UV resin for this and coat the inside of the mould in resin before curing, removing and making a visual check. If there is a problem with the test cast please get in touch within 7 days of receipt.
Settings and Findings
We recommend that you do not overfill the mould. You can usually sand the back and dome with resin if required. The snowflake has a hole in the top allowing wire wrapping or you can add a stand at the back with a small triangle of resin.
If you are unsure please order a single mould to test, make a test cast and finish to check your settings.
